A Nigerian man has gone viral on social media after claiming he was sexually assaulted by a female friend but was told he could not pursue legal action under Nigerian law.
In a video shared on X, the man explained that he visited the woman’s home while in the area to see another friend.
She offered him a drink, after which he said he became immobilised and allegedly sexually assaulted.
The next morning, the woman reportedly ignored the incident. Distressed, he visited a hospital for medical tests.
Seeking justice, he approached a lawyer, only to be informed that Nigerian law does not make provisions for men to sue women for rape.
“When a woman rapes a man, the man can’t sue the woman, and I’m like really?” he said.
The video has sparked nationwide discussions about gender, legal definitions of sexual assault, and the need for reforms in Nigeria’s sexual offence laws.
