A 20-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has revealed to an Ikeja High Court how she was allegedly raped by her lecturer, Dr Samuel Ojogbo, inside what she described as an underground office on campus.

The student gave the emotional testimony on Tuesday while being led in evidence by State Counsel, Mr Owolabi Azeez, in the ongoing trial of the lecturer.

She told the court that the incident allegedly occurred after an examination on August 22, 2025, following a brief interaction with the defendant during her earlier paper.

“I said yes, I knew a section better. He told me not to worry and to see him after the exam,” she said, recounting their conversation during the exam period.

According to her, she initially went to his office twice but did not meet him. She said she eventually saw him after another examination, where he supervised the paper.

“The next day, Aug. 22, I had another exam. The defendant supervised it. Afterwards, I saw him and he asked me to wait,” she added.

She explained that she followed him into what she described as an underground office without windows or a secretary, where the alleged incident took place.

“We sat and discussed the exam. Two students entered; he dismissed them and asked me to shut the door.

“As I closed it, he stood behind me, pushed me onto a couch and began touching me.

“He caressed me, forced himself on me and raped me,” she said, breaking down in court.

She further told the court that after the alleged assault, the lecturer made further comments and requested her contact details.

“Afterwards, he said he would supervise my final-year project and collected my number,” she added.

The witness said she left the office in tears and confided in a friend, which eventually led to a chain of reports within the university system.

She explained that a lecturer was informed, who in turn contacted her uncle—also a lecturer in the same department—before they proceeded to the Head of Department.

“He asked for evidence and why I did not record it. The defendant denied the allegation. The HOD advised us to let it go and be more careful with lecturers,” she added.

The student told the court that her uncle insisted on pursuing the case, leading to reports to SERVICOM, the university medical centre, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, and subsequently the police.

She said she was referred to Bariga Police Station and later WARIF for medical examination and further assessment.

“I underwent tests at WARIF and returned to the police. The case was moved to the gender unit,” she said.

She also informed the court that the defendant’s family later reached out seeking a meeting.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala adjourned the matter until April 27 for cross-examination.

Dr Ojogbo is standing trial on a two-count charge of sexual assault and rape preferred by the Lagos State Government.

Prosecution said the offences contravene Sections 260 and 263(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, and attract life imprisonment upon conviction.
