President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to deal decisively with terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, warning that those involved, including sponsors, will face the full weight of the law.
Speaking while presenting the ₦58.18 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly, the President announced a major overhaul of Nigeria’s security framework, anchored on intelligence sharing, unified command and community-based counter-insurgency strategies.
He disclosed that ₦5.41 trillion, the largest allocation in the budget, has been set aside for defence and security to strengthen the capacity of security agencies with modern equipment.
Tinubu said all armed groups operating outside government authority would now be classified as terrorists, including bandits, militias and foreign-linked criminal networks.
He stressed that security spending would be closely monitored to ensure accountability and measurable results.
The President also outlined broader fiscal reforms, promising an end to overlapping budgets from 2026 and assuring Nigerians that ongoing economic reforms are aimed at long-term stability, job creation and sustainable growth.
