Several major infrastructure projects in Lagos were inaugurated on behalf of the President, despite earlier publicity indicating he would personally attend the event.

The Presidency and the Lagos State Government had widely announced the President’s planned visit, but Senate President Godswill Akpabio stepped in to perform the commissioning.

Acting in that capacity, Akpabio inaugurated the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge and a Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex. The ceremony formed part of activities initially outlined for the President’s working visit to the state.

The event drew a strong political presence, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and several governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who attended in a show of support.

Among those present were Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also chairs the APC Governors Forum.

No official reason was given for the President’s absence.

Addressing attendees, Akpabio stated that he was representing the President at the ceremony, adding that the projects underscore efforts to strengthen infrastructure and enhance public service delivery in Lagos.

The inaugurations are part of a broader rollout of projects by the Sanwo-Olu administration. Other projects slated for unveiling include the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, Maracana Stadium, and the Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo.

In preparation for the events, the Lagos State Government had earlier announced partial road closures in affected areas and advised motorists to use alternative routes to ease traffic flow.
