Suspected thugs have allegedly attacked the suspended Chairman of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State, assaulting him in a brazen display that left workers and residents in shock.

The embattled chairman was said to have arrived at the council secretariat to resume duties after about six months in suspension when the situation spiralled out of control.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and humiliating.

Sources said the attackers stormed the premises shortly after the chairman’s arrival, disrupting activities and forcing workers to flee for safety.

Those allegedly involved in the attack were identified by sources as individuals linked to local power blocs, including some reportedly loyal to traditional authorities.

The incident has further deepened the controversy surrounding the chairman’s suspension, which insiders say has been fraught with political and administrative disputes.

Some stakeholders have also questioned the legality of the suspension, alleging that no formal letter was communicated before the crisis erupted.

Residents and observers have since condemned the attack, warning that it reflects a dangerous slide into lawlessness.

Concerns are also mounting over the alleged involvement of non-state actors in a matter many insist should be handled strictly in line with constitutional provisions.
