President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council, resulting in changes in the ministries of Finance and Housing and Urban Development.

The development was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, indicating that two serving ministers, Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, are to exit the cabinet.

According to the announcement, Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over duties to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the ministry and now assumes the substantive role.

Similarly, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, until now Minister of Housing and Urban Development, has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo also announced the nomination of Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

It further directed that all handing-over and taking-over processes be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the decision was aimed at improving coordination and delivery across key sectors.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

He added that the President acted within his constitutional powers as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), while expressing appreciation to outgoing ministers for their service to the nation.

The SGF further noted that the President remains committed to continuous reinvigoration of the cabinet to enhance performance and governance delivery.
