Muyiwa Adekeye, spokesperson to former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused security operatives of attempting to detain the former governor at an airport on Thursday.
According to Adekeye, the incident occurred when El-Rufai arrived in Nigeria aboard a flight from Cairo.
He said security agents approached the former governor shortly after landing and sought to take him into custody.
Adekeye stated that El-Rufai refused to accompany the operatives because they did not present any formal invitation or warrant.
He further alleged that during the encounter, the agents confiscated the former governor’s international passport from one of his aides.
In a statement detailing the episode, Adekeye said: “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo.
“Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal Invitation. They however snatched his passport from an aide.”
