Fresh controversy has emerged over the viral rape allegation made by TikTok user Mirabel, after individuals said to be her neighbours released a video disputing her account and questioning the credibility of her claims.

Mirabel had earlier sparked nationwide outrage after alleging she was raped in her Lagos apartment, a claim that gained traction across social media and drew attention from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which announced efforts to locate her and offer support.

However, in a new video circulating online, a woman who identified herself as living in the same compound with Mirabel insisted the alleged incident did not happen as described.

“The r*p3 did not happen. I did not hear any shout when the alleged incident happened,” the woman said in the video.

She further claimed that Mirabel had previously received financial contributions from neighbours after allegedly stating her mother had died recently, a claim she said was false.

“What is paining me is that she lied that her mom passed a few days ago, and the whole compound contributed money for her. I went through her page, and saw that she posted about her mom’s passing last year December,” she added.

The neighbour also suggested Mirabel had been seen previously with a man who frequently visited the compound, claiming this raised doubts about her story.

“I’ve seen her with a man before. He comes around often, and they take ‘somethings’. I don’t believe her story,” she said.

The video has sparked renewed debate online, with social media users divided between those calling for caution and due process, and others warning against discrediting a potential survivor before investigations are concluded.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the police or the Lagos DSVA addressing the neighbours’ claims. The case remains a developing story.
