A female doctor in Nigeria has highlighted the unrealistic demands some people place on professionals, even in life-or-death situations.
In a recent disclosure, she recounted missing a phone call while performing surgery. When she returned the call, the person reportedly told her, “It doesn’t cost you anything to pause whatever you are doing and talk to me for a second.”
The doctor said she was shocked by the comment, explaining, “In my head, I’m like what do you mean I should put down the scalpel, unscrub, abandon a life on the table just so I can pick your call.”
She stressed that this encounter reflects a broader misunderstanding of healthcare responsibilities and emphasised the need for respect for professionals who handle critical work.
Her story has since ignited discussion on boundaries, prioritisation, and recognising the demands of medical professions.
