Popular Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has stirred online conversation after stating that he does not celebrate Christmas but what he calls “Chrismarity”.
The controversial preacher made the remark during a church service captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media.
Speaking to his congregation while dressed in festive attire, Odumeje explained that his celebration goes beyond the traditional understanding of Christmas.
According to him, “Chrismarity” represents a Christlike lifestyle that encompasses joy, character and spiritual expression, rather than what he described as merely observing a religious ritual.
He argued that Christmas, as commonly practised, focuses on ceremonial aspects, while Chrismarity reflects the full embodiment of Christ’s nature.
His remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with supporters praising his interpretation and critics questioning the theological basis of the concept.
