Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) says she is fully prepared to substantiate her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following the filing of a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against her.

Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed on Friday in Abuja that she had received notice of the suit. She described the legal action as a long-awaited opportunity to present her claims before an impartial court—an opportunity she says the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee denied her.

In her statement, she maintained that “the court case now provided the platform” she had sought to prove her allegations. She reiterated her claim that she was sexually harassed, insisting that her refusal to yield to the alleged advances resulted in persistent political hostility directed at her.

“See you in court, Godswill Akpabio,” she said.

Akpabio’s defamation suit accuses the Kogi senator of disseminating damaging and fabricated allegations that portrayed him as a sexual predator.

Court filings from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory show that the Senate President is requesting substantial damages, formal retractions, and publicly broadcast apologies, arguing that the statements caused significant harm to his reputation and subjected him to widespread condemnation.

The Statement of Claim includes a witness list and asserts that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s interviews—aired across television, radio, and online platforms depicted him as someone who misused his office for personal gain. Akpabio contends that millions of Nigerians viewed the content, resulting in what he describes as humiliation, emotional distress, and severe reputational injury.

He is also asking the court to order the removal of all online materials containing the contested allegations and to mandate that apologies be broadcast repeatedly across major media organisations.

A court order dated 6 November 2025 allowed the suit to be served on Akpoti-Uduaghan through the Clerk of the National Assembly after attempts at direct service failed.
