The United States has delivered a fresh consignment of military equipment to Nigeria, deepening security ties between both countries as they continue joint efforts against terrorism and other threats.
The development was announced on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), the arm of the US military responsible for operations on the African continent. According to the command, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
In a statement shared on X, AFRICOM said: “U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership.”

While the command did not reveal the exact type or volume of the equipment supplied, it noted that the delivery forms part of ongoing cooperation aimed at supporting Nigeria’s security operations.
The latest support comes against the backdrop of heightened collaboration between both countries in tackling extremist groups. On Christmas night, US forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State against Islamic State–linked fighters believed to be working with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local bandit networks.
Those strikes followed diplomatic tensions triggered by claims that Christians in Nigeria were being targeted for violence. US President Donald Trump had described the situation as “genocide,” a claim the Nigerian government firmly rejected.
