The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed the nationwide ban on small-volume alcoholic drinks, announcing that enforcement operations are already underway against manufacturers and distributors.

Speaking in Enugu, the agency’s South East Zonal Director, Dr Festus Ukadike, said the ongoing crackdown would be followed by efforts to remove the remaining sachet alcoholic products from the market.

He explained that the policy would not disrupt legitimate businesses, noting that manufacturers can continue producing alcoholic beverages provided each bottle contains no less than 200ml.

Ukadike disclosed that enforcement teams have already recorded arrests and seized prohibited products across several South East states, including Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and Anambra.

The agency maintained that the enforcement exercise forms part of its commitment to ensuring compliance with existing regulations on alcohol packaging and distribution.

NAFDAC urged all affected manufacturers and distributors to comply fully with the ban to avoid sanctions.
