The Labour Party has confirmed that Peter Obi, its 2023 presidential candidate, will not receive an automatic ticket if he chooses to contest the 2027 elections under the party.
National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh stated that all aspirants must adhere to the party’s internal democratic processes, regardless of their influence or past candidacy.
Ifoh emphasised that the party’s convention will determine all ticket allocations, including presidential, governorship, and chairmanship nominations.
He noted that Peter Obi has maintained a degree of distance from the party leadership over the past year, leaving his political intentions uncertain.
“Obi’s position can only be clarified by him. Nobody speaks on his behalf,” he added.
Despite ongoing speculation about Obi’s potential alignment with other parties, the Labour Party affirmed its openness to reconciliation with aggrieved members.
However, Ifoh stressed that reconciliation will not bypass established procedures, highlighting the party’s commitment to internal democracy and fair competition for all aspirants.
