Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has strongly criticised comparisons between Nigerian music star Wizkid and his late father, describing such claims as disrespectful and ignorant.
Speaking during an Instagram livestream, the singer and activist warned Wizkid’s fanbase, popularly known as Wizkid FC, to stop associating the Afrobeats star with Fela’s legacy.
He insisted that his father’s impact on music, politics and African consciousness cannot be replicated by any modern artiste.
Seun argued that dragging Fela’s name into fan wars diminishes the cultural and historical weight of his achievements.
He further accused overzealous fans of fuelling unnecessary rivalry within the music industry, making collaborations difficult for artists.
According to him, true appreciation of music should not require comparison, adding that genuine art speaks to the soul without needing validation.
His comments have since sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
