Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused President Bola Tinubu of illegally withdrawing huge sums from the Federation Account without legislative approval.
El-Rufai alleged that N100 billion has been deducted every month for the past 15 months, amounting to about N1.5 trillion, and claimed the action violates the constitution since it was not authorised by the National Assembly.
“Every month, President Bola Tinubu deducts N100B from the Federation account. This is unconstitutional and an impeachable offence,” El-Rufai said.

Speaking on Arise Television, the former governor, who has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, described the deductions as an abuse of presidential powers and called for Tinubu’s impeachment.
He claimed the funds were supposedly channelled to security agencies but argued that the spending has not translated into improved safety, as insecurity continues to worsen nationwide.
El-Rufai also criticised what he called a lack of transparency surrounding the withdrawals, insisting that Nigerians deserve clear explanations on how such massive public funds are being used.
