Israel Katz, Israel’s Defence Minister, has issued a stark warning that any successor to Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would face assassination if they pursue hostile policies against Israel and its allies.
Khamenei was reportedly killed in coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Tehran, dramatically escalating tensions across the Middle East and triggering fears of wider regional instability.
In a strongly worded post on X on Wednesday, Katz signalled that Israel would not limit its response to Khamenei alone, but would extend its target list to any future Iranian leader perceived as advancing anti-Israel objectives.
“Any leader selected by the Iranian terror regime to continue leading the plan for Israel’s destruction, threatening the United States, the free world and countries in the region, and suppressing the Iranian people, will be a certain target for assassination, no matter his name or where he hides,” Katz said.
