Political economist and former presidential candidate, Professor Pat Utomi, has issued a strong warning regarding Peter Obi’s political ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Utomi said he would withdraw his support for the former Anambra State governor if Obi accepts a vice-presidential slot under any political arrangement.
Utomi insisted that Obi must contest for the presidency and not settle for a subordinate role.
According to him, accepting a VP position would signal a compromise that he would not support.
Utomi also criticised Nigeria’s leadership culture, describing the presidency as a “retirement home” dominated by elderly politicians.
He argued that executive offices require energy and mental alertness, proposing that no one above 70 years should run for president or governor.
While clarifying that older politicians still have roles to play, Utomi said legislative positions were more suitable for them.
His comments come amid shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
