Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has revealed that she took on several jobs to support herself while studying at the University of Lagos, saying the experiences shaped her resilience and work ethic.
Speaking in a recent interview with BellaNaija, Akindele said she sold cakes, made nails, worked as a make-up artist, handled costume sourcing, managed filming locations and even sold bed spaces to survive as a student.
She recalled being slapped by a customer who was dissatisfied with a nail job she learnt by observing technicians in Yaba.
The actress also said renowned make-up artist Bimpe Onakoya bought cakes from her, while she provided make-up and costume services for actresses including Bukky Wright and Iyabo Ojo.
Akindele further disclosed that she negotiated filming locations for producers and earned commissions from property owners, insisting that life’s struggles made her determined, resourceful and unwavering in pursuing success.
