Salis Mohammed Sabo, a personal assistant to the Niger State Governor, expressed deep anguish after sharing a photo of one of the 100 pupils recently rescued from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
The pupils had been abducted during a terrorist attack on November 21, which affected 315 students, pupils, and teachers.
In a Facebook post, Sabo said, “Each time I look at this picture and I see the innocence on the face of this girl, I go into the doldrums, feeling like a prisoner of an unforgiving conscience.”
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago received the rescued children at the Government House in Minna on Monday, where they were handed over to authorities for medical screening and documentation.
The event marked the end of a tense period of uncertainty for families and the state.
The abduction highlights ongoing security challenges in Niger State and the wider region, as communities and officials continue to grapple with the trauma and risks posed by terrorist attacks.
Citizens have called for stronger measures to protect children and schools from future threats.
