The Federal Government has applauded Nollywood star Funke Akindele for breaking new ground in Nigerian cinema with her latest film, Behind the Scenes, which has grossed over ₦2.1 billion at the local box office.
This milestone makes it the first Nollywood production to surpass the ₦2 billion mark.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) described Akindele’s achievement as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing influence in global cinema and a boost for the creative industry.
Internationally, the film has earned over $111,000 in Canada and $190,000 across North America, showcasing the wide appeal of Nigerian storytelling.
Akindele has also become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
Critics and cinema-goers have praised her innovative approach to production and storytelling, further cementing her status as a leading figure in Nollywood.
The government’s commendation underscores the cultural and economic significance of her work for Nigeria’s entertainment sector.
