The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspect in connection with the recent attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and several chieftains of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State.

According to a report by Channels Television, the suspect, identified as Udeme Sunday Stephen, was apprehended following what security sources described as a detailed investigation into the incident.

The attack occurred last Tuesday at the residence of former Edo State governor and ADC chieftain, John Odigie-Oyegun, in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Obi and other party stakeholders were said to have come under attack shortly after arriving at the location.

Confirming the development earlier, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, said the incident happened after the group returned from the ADC secretariat, where they had formally received the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, into the party.

Security agencies have yet to release full details of the suspect’s alleged role or whether additional arrests are expected.
Further investigations are reportedly ongoing.
