Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused Euracare Hospital in Lagos of gross medical negligence following the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
In a detailed account released through her media team, Chimamanda said her son died on January 6 after what was meant to be a routine MRI scan and central line procedure ahead of an emergency medical evacuation to the United States.
She alleged that the child was given an excessive dose of propofol by the anesthesiologist, became unresponsive and had to be resuscitated before being placed on life support in the intensive care unit.
Chimamanda claimed her son was not properly monitored after sedation and that his oxygen was switched off prematurely during transfer.
“He was stable and meant to travel the next day. Instead, our beautiful boy was gone,” she said, describing the incident as criminally negligent.
