A Federal High Court in Abuja has thrown out a lawsuit challenging the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu described the case filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi as frivolous and an abuse of court process.

The court also held that the plaintiff lacked legal standing to institute the matter, noting that he failed to demonstrate any personal injury arising from Jonathan’s alleged political ambition.

Justice Lifu further stated that previous rulings by both the Court of Appeal and a Federal High Court in Yenagoa had already affirmed Jonathan’s eligibility, making the present suit unmeritorious.

The court consequently dismissed the case and imposed heavy costs against the plaintiff, awarding N20 million in favour of Jonathan and N1 million to the Attorney General of the Federation.

The judge also rejected a separate motion seeking his recusal from the matter, describing it as baseless and unfounded.
