Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose have engaged in a sharp exchange following Obasanjo’s attendance at Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.

According to a statement released on Monday in Abeokuta by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the former President received what he described as a “thank you letter” sent via SMS by Fayose.

In the message, Fayose expressed appreciation for Obasanjo’s presence at his birthday event but criticised the comments the former President reportedly made at the occasion.

He accused Obasanjo of making “very irresponsible comments,” adding that he chose not to respond publicly so that “the world will know the difference between a sane and a mad man.”

Fayose further alleged that Obasanjo had lost his sanity, claiming his behaviour reflected “the heightened stage of dementia.”

He also demanded the return of money he said Obasanjo had acknowledged receiving, saying: “I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought you back.”

Responding, Obasanjo issued a brief reply, stating that Fayose’s message “undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable.”

He confirmed that the money referenced by Fayose had been returned through Foluso Adeagbo, who originally delivered it, and that the bag remained “unopened.”
