Suspected armed bandits believed to be operating from the Kainji Lake National Park forest have attacked a village market in Niger State, leaving at least 30 people dead and many others abducted.
The attack occurred at Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village, accessed through Kabe District in Borgu Local Government Area.
Witnesses said the assailants stormed the market, set several stalls on fire, and looted large quantities of food items before opening fire on traders and residents.

Many victims were reportedly forced away from the scene and taken toward the vast forest within the national park.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident.
Its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said a joint team of security operatives had visited the area following the attack.
“More than 30 people lost their lives, while others were kidnapped,” Abiodun stated.
“Security agencies are currently working to rescue those abducted and restore normalcy to the area.”
