Senegal has reportedly relocated its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy to a military base following a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that stripped the team of its 2025 title, awarding it to Morocco.
The ruling came after Morocco appealed the result of the January 18 final, where Senegal initially won 1-0 in extra time.
CAF’s Appeal Board stated Senegal forfeited the match when players walked off in protest of a late penalty awarded to Morocco, citing Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON regulations.
A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) shows military personnel supporting the trophy, with an officer recording the moment, highlighting Senegal’s efforts to safeguard the symbol of national pride.
Senegal has announced plans to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with officials calling for an international probe into suspected CAF corruption.
Players and fans have expressed outrage and disappointment.
