The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation following the emergence of a viral video in which a man identified as Shawama allegedly confessed to killing 32 people.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the command had no record of Shawama being arrested by its operatives, but stressed that the claims were being treated with utmost seriousness.
“As a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video.
“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome,” the statement read.
The police also called on members of the public to assist with useful information that could aid the investigation.
“The Command further appeals to members of the public with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of Shawama or his accomplices to come forward and assist law enforcement in bringing them to justice,” Olayinka said.

He assured that updates on the progress and outcome of the investigation would be made available in due course.
In the video, recorded in Yoruba, the individual was heard making a startling claim: “When they wanted to misbehave in Ibadan, I killed 32.”
He further alleged that security agencies had not only released him but also commended his actions.
The footage also showed other individuals expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, declaring, “Even without elections, you have won.”
