The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, recording a strong overall performance among candidates nationwide.

According to the results, 82,082 candidates , representing 86.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above, regardless of English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, during the official unveiling of the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Professor Wushishi disclosed that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, while 95,160 eventually sat for the papers.

Breaking down performance in key subjects, the NECO boss said, “93,425 candidates sat for English Language, out of which 73,167 representing 78.42 per cent got credits and above”.

He also raised concerns over examination malpractice, revealing that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences during the exercise. This figure, he noted, represents a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.

In addition, Professor Wushishi disclosed that disciplinary action had been recommended against erring officials, with five supervisors — two from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states — proposed for blacklisting for aiding and abetting examination malpractice.

He further stated that four examination centres were recommended for de-recognition over involvement in whole-centre malpractice. The affected centres include two in Niger State, and one each in Yobe and Kano states.

Professor Wushishi noted that the 2025 SSCE External examination was conducted between Wednesday, November 26, and Sunday, December 13, 2025, adding that the council released the results 52 days after the conclusion of the examinations.
