The Federal Government has assured students, parents, and schools that there are no restrictions on subject choices under the new Senior Secondary School Curriculum, even as registration for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams continues.

In a statement on Saturday, Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Sa’id Suwaiba Ahmad clarified that all approved subjects remain available to students, provided their choices are guided by school authorities, parents, or certified school counsellors.

Students in science streams can opt for arts or social science subjects, while arts and social science students may choose science courses, reflecting the curriculum’s flexible and student-focused approach.

The ministers also confirmed that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been renamed Digital Technology, with no change in content, and students previously studying ICT can register for the Digital Technology exam.

Additionally, six vocational trade subjects have now been officially approved, allowing eligible students to register if offered at their schools.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to education, the ministry urged stakeholders to rely on verified information and provide proper guidance to students, ensuring a smooth and accurate registration process nationwide.
