A newly married woman in Abuja has been expelled from her church following ongoing marital tensions, igniting debates on consent, religion, and mental health.
The Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide reportedly took the decision during a public service after months of counselling failed to resolve the dispute between the couple, identified as Isaac and Oyiza.
The marriage, formalised in September 2025, quickly became strained as Oyiza expressed discomfort with physical intimacy and lack of emotional connection.
Despite multiple mediation attempts involving family and church leaders, no resolution was reached.
In a video shared online, the church’s international director, Paul Rika, announced the expulsion, citing spiritual concerns and alleging misconduct.
The church’s pronouncement has drawn criticism from the public and rights advocates, raising questions about individual autonomy, marital rights, and the role of religious institutions in enforcing personal decisions.
