Anambra is one of Nigeria’s off-cycle election states, alongside Bayelsa, Kogi, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Ekiti and Imo. The state became an off-cycle election state in 2003, following the ruling which removed Chris Ngige and returned Peter Obi as Governor on the platform of APGA.
For this year’s contest, sixteen recognised candidates are participating, including:Charles Soludo (APGA), Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), Jude Ezenwafor (PDP), George Moghalu (LP), and other contenders across AA, AAC, ADC, APM, APP, BP, NNPP, SDP, YPP and ZLP.
The incumbent Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, remains one of the major figures in the race.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, had earlier disclosed that 24,000 personnel had been deployed across 5,718 polling units, with two units excluded due to absence of registered voters.
