The University of Lagos, UNILAG, has celebrated 43 of its Law graduates who earned First-Class honours at the 2024 Nigerian Law School Bar Examinations, marking one of the largest tallies ever produced by a single institution in Nigeria.
The recognition ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Faculty of Law Boardroom, drew faculty, students, and alumni. Distinguished guests included the Minister of State, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and former Attorney-General of Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN.
Representing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folasade T. Ogunsola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research) Prof. Bola Oboh applauded the Faculty of Law for sustaining a tradition of excellence. She described the performance as proof of the university’s strong academic culture and encouraged the graduates to uphold integrity and professionalism as they advance in their careers.
Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Abiola Sanni, SAN, hailed the achievement as “stellar,” crediting it to the Faculty’s rigorous training standards. He also noted recent milestones, including an academic partnership with the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom.
In separate goodwill messages, Dr. Oduwole and Prof. Oyewo urged the graduates to carry the values of service, discipline, and loyalty to UNILAG into their professional journeys.
The event’s high point was the formal recognition of the 43 honorees, who each received a commemorative medal and a congratulatory handshake.
The ceremony also provided a platform for the UNILAG Alumni Association to outline new initiatives. Its president, Engr. Ife Oyedele, FNSE, announced the development of the UNILAG Alumni App, a digital tool designed to connect graduates, foster mentorship, and celebrate alumni achievements. He further disclosed plans for a modern 1,800-bed hostel project aimed at improving student welfare.
The dual celebration highlighted both academic excellence and forward-looking innovation. While the record number of First-Class graduates showcased UNILAG’s academic strength, the alumni initiatives pointed toward an ambitious future for the institution.
