The Nigerian culinary scene received another boost as celebrity chef Hilda Baci was officially recognised by Guinness World Records for preparing the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

The latest achievement makes her the first Nigerian chef to hold two global records.

The confirmation came after Guinness verified her September cookout in Lagos, where Baci and her team prepared 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice.

The event, which drew massive online attention, was organised in partnership with Gino, a major food brand that sponsored the record attempt.

Baci’s newest recognition comes more than a year after her first record-breaking feat in May 2023, when she cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes in a marathon session that earned her international fame.

With both titles now under her belt, she stands out as one of Africa’s most accomplished culinary figures.

Reacting to the announcement, Baci said the achievement symbolises gratitude, faith, and perseverance.

She thanked her supporters and the team that worked tirelessly during the Lagos cookout, noting that both records were the result of teamwork and passion.

She added that she hopes the milestone will inspire young Africans to believe in the power of resilience.

Since the announcement, congratulatory messages have flooded social media, with many Nigerians praising her as a national pride and an ambassador of Nigerian cuisine.

Her consistent recognition is helping to showcase the country’s creativity and food culture on the world stage.

Baci shared a short reflection from Isaiah 61:7 on her page, writing that she received a “double portion of joy,” in celebration of the twin honours.
