Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, citing worsening insecurity and what he described as failures in leadership following the prolonged abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Monday after visiting Governor Seyi Makinde, Obi expressed concern that more than 50 days after the abduction, the victims remained in captivity without what he called tangible rescue efforts.
He also said he was surprised to learn that Tinubu had allegedly not contacted the Oyo State governor over the incident.
Drawing comparisons with previous administrations, Obi noted that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan regularly engaged state governors during major security crises.
He further referenced the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction, arguing that Tinubu had criticised Jonathan’s handling of the crisis but had shown little visible engagement despite multiple school kidnappings under his administration.
