A Nigerian lady has triggered widespread reactions online after sharing controversial views about Omugwo, the traditional postpartum care practice common in many Nigerian homes.

In a viral video circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, the woman questioned why many people expect a husband’s mother to automatically handle Omugwo responsibilities after childbirth.

According to her, any mother-in-law coming for Omugwo should be prepared to assist actively with household duties instead of expecting to rest.

She argued that breastfeeding mothers already face physical and emotional stress and should not be burdened with caring for visiting relatives.

The lady stated that she would not hesitate to send her mother-in-law on errands, including cooking and helping with chores, if she came to assist after delivery.

Her remarks quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with social media users debating family roles, marriage expectations, and cultural traditions surrounding childbirth support.

While some users agreed that Omugwo should involve practical assistance, others insisted that respect for mothers-in-law must remain a priority regardless of the situation.

The conversation continues to trend online as Nigerians share differing opinions on postpartum caregiving and family responsibilities.
