Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor and pastor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has died after a brief illness, throwing the Nigerian film industry into mourning. Reports indicate that the respected actor passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Announcing the sad news on Instagram, fellow actor Kunle Afod paid tribute to Adeshina’s lasting impact on Yoruba cinema, describing him as a legend whose talent, dedication and the joy he brought to audiences would never be forgotten.
He also extended condolences to the late actor’s family, friends, colleagues and fans, praying for his soul to rest in peace. Other Nollywood stars, including Funke Etti, Mustapha Sholagbade and Toyin Adewale, also expressed shock and offered prayers in his honour.
Widely admired for his memorable performances and contribution to indigenous filmmaking, Adeshina’s death adds to a series of recent losses that have left the Yoruba entertainment industry grieving.
