US President Donald Trump has designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over allegations of widespread persecution and violence against Christians.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social account on Friday, Trump claimed that Christianity was under severe threat in Nigeria, citing reports of mass killings allegedly carried out by radical groups.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” he wrote.
Trump also announced that Nigeria had been added to the U.S. State Department’s watch list for countries accused of violating religious freedoms.

According to the State Department’s website, the CPC list includes nations such as China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan, among others.
The former president said he had directed U.S. Representatives Riley Moore and Tom Cole, along with the House Appropriations Committee, to investigate the situation and provide him with a detailed report.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, has faced growing international scrutiny over recurring incidents of religiously motivated violence, though the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied allegations of systematic persecution or genocide against Christians.
