Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN KAI have uncovered a mass burial site in the Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State, containing the remains of about 20 suspected terrorists killed during recent military operations.
The discovery was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
He said the finding points to heavy losses suffered by terrorist groups amid sustained offensives by security forces in the region.
Uba explained that the bodies were those of fighters killed in clashes with troops and later buried by their accomplices while retreating from the area.

He noted that the development further weakens the credibility of terrorist propaganda, as it reflects the growing impact of military pressure on their operational capacity.
The statement also outlined key gains recorded during ongoing clearance operations in the Timbuktu Triangle, with several former terrorist strongholds, including Tergejeri, Chiralia, and the Ajigin/Abirma axis — now under firm military control.
According to Uba, troops made repeated contact with fleeing insurgents during the operations and engaged them, leading to the elimination of several fighters.
He further disclosed that on Tuesday, troops consolidating at a forward location about six kilometres north of Chilaria encountered two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).
While one of the explosives was successfully neutralised, the second managed to breach the defensive line, damaging some logistics assets.
The incident reportedly led to the loss of some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, with others sustaining injuries.
Those wounded were airlifted by Nigerian Army Aviation helicopters to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for medical attention.
Uba added that Nigerian Air Force aircraft, alongside other army air platforms, provided aerial surveillance and fire support throughout the evacuation, enabling ground troops to continue pursuing and engaging fleeing terrorist elements.
