The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspects over alleged involvement in sexual offences and child abuse, with authorities confirming that the suspects will be arraigned in court.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement, noting that investigations have been concluded and prosecution is set to commence.
Among the suspects is a 46-year-old man, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, accused of incest involving a 20-year-old victim.
According to the statement: “On 23rd April 2026, a case of incest involving a 20-year-old victim was transferred from Oko Police Station. The suspect, Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, male, aged 46 years, allegedly engaged in sexual relations with the victim since she was 17 years old.
“The case came to light after the victim tested HIV positive during a hospital visit. The suspect has made a confessional statement.”
In another case, a female suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, was accused of physically abusing two children, Echetuna Ezenwanne, 6, and Chikaima Ezenwanne, 4, allegedly using a wire to inflict injuries.
She reportedly claimed to have adopted the children from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.
The police also disclosed that the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department received a case involving a 16-year-old victim from Ogbunike.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, male, aged 26 years, a security personnel at the estate in the area, allegedly attacked the victim while she was on her way to visit a friend within the estate.
“He was said to have dragged her into an uncompleted building within the estate where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. Meanwhile, the suspect has made a confessional statement.”
Another case involved an 11-year-old victim, allegedly lured into a barbing salon by a 36-year-old suspect, Uchenna Muojama.
“Also, the Operatives received on 23rd April 2026, a case of defilement of 11 years old girl, transferred from Neni Police Divisional Headquaters. The male suspect, Uchenna Muojama, aged 36 years, allegedly lured the victim inside his Barbing saloon where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. The Operatives have further obtained a medical report for the court proceedings.”
The statement further revealed an earlier case transferred from Central Police Station, Awka, involving a 52-year-old suspect.
“In a similar development, on 21st April 2025 a case of Defilement was transferred from Central Police Station Awka, where a 52-year old male suspect, Chukwudi Nwayata took advantage of the mental situation of an 11-year old girl, lured her to his house and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim,” it added.
Ikenga said operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department handled the investigations and confirmed that the suspects would be arraigned on May 6, 2026, before a special court sitting in Awka.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the incidents.
“The five suspects will be arraigned today 6th May 2026 before the Special Court sitting in Awka.
“To this end the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu described the case as heinous and unacceptable, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice,” the statement said.
