The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a domestic staff member accused of masterminding the killing of a Pentecostal bishop in Delta State before allegedly attempting to sell the victim’s vehicle in Anambra.

Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, identified the slain cleric as Bishop Chinedu of End Reconciliation Ministry, Asaba.

According to the command, the prime suspect, who served as the bishop’s driver and domestic aide, allegedly carried out the crime with the assistance of other gang members before fleeing with the cleric’s Toyota Prado Jeep.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

He said operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, arrested the suspect alongside another individual alleged to have attempted to purchase the stolen vehicle in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area.

“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu PhD, today, May 13, 2026, exposed and arrested a domestic staff member allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of his employer, a Pentecostal bishop of End Reconciliation Ministry, Asaba, Delta State, and the subsequent attempt to dispose of the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State,” the statement read.

Ikenga explained that the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation launched after security operatives received information about the suspicious vehicle transaction.

“The breakthrough followed a swift intelligence-led operation by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, which led to the arrest of the suspect and another individual alleged to be the buyer of the stolen vehicle.”

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly conspired with unidentified accomplices to kill the bishop before escaping to Anambra State with the stolen SUV.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect, who served as the bishop’s driver and domestic staff, allegedly conspired with yet-to-be-identified criminal elements to murder the cleric before fleeing with the victim’s Prado Jeep to Anambra State for sale,” he stated.

He added that police operatives successfully tracked the suspects and recovered the vehicle during the operation.

“Police operatives, acting on credible information, tracked and intercepted the suspects in Nkpor, successfully recovered the stolen vehicle, and took them into custody for further interrogation.”

The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang linked to the alleged murder and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The command stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang involved in the incident and fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate murder.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police urged residents to be cautious when employing domestic workers and drivers.

“Meanwhile, CP Orutugu has advised residents to exercise due diligence in the recruitment and management of domestic staff, drivers, and other household employees.

“He urged members of the public to properly profile and verify the identities of persons employed in their homes and establishments, while also remaining vigilant to suspicious behaviour and activities.”

The command further assured residents of its commitment to intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property across the state.

“The Commissioner further assured the public that the command remains committed to proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations, and collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state,” the statement added.
