Reactions have continued to trail the recent outburst between the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade and Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Sen.) Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, during the 2026 Inter-Faith Gathering held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Secretariat Grand Space, behind the Oyo State House of Assembly.

In new video clips making rounds on social media, it was suggested that Olubadan refused to acknowledge the greetings of the Alaafin due to perceived pride.

Olubadan, Oba Ladajoa, who was a former governor of Oyo state, was seen greeting other monarchs and political leaders at the meeting except the alaafin, who stretched his hand to the Olubadan while seating.

In new video clips making rounds, the Olubadan was seen being greeted even by the Alaafin, and former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Further clips showed the Olubadan being respectfully greeted by several attendees, including the Alaafin himself and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. However, unlike other dignitaries, like Ayedatiwa, and even the Ooni of Ife, who stood up before greeting the Olubadan, the Alaafin remained seated while stretching out his hand, a gesture that was eventually ignored by the Ibadan monarch.

However, the difference is that, the others stood up to greet the Olubadan while he reciprocated the gestures. Meanwhile, Alaafin refused to stand up, but maintained his seat, while stretchig out his hand to the Olubadan, whiche the latter snubbed eventually.

The perceived rivalry is said to be borne out of ‘lack of respect’ for the age and status of the Olubadan.

Ooni stood up, Obasanjo almost stood up.
