Popular Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, fondly called Omije Ojumi, has passed away.
Her death was confirmed in a statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody on behalf of her family.
According to the post, Akinnaanu died at a Lagos hospital on January 12, 2026.The cause of her death was not disclosed.
Months earlier, she had sought prayers over a persistent leg complication, which was described by a cleric as a possible spiritual attack.
Akinnaanu, who left a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time, rose to prominence with her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” a favourite in churches across Nigeria.
She also released other popular tracks, including “O Ti Sure.”
Fans and colleagues have expressed shock and grief over her sudden death, mourning the loss of a talented voice in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
