Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed four armed militia members and recovered weapons following an operation in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State. The operation was launched in response to renewed communal clashes in the area.
Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, disclosed in a Sunday statement that the deployment followed credible intelligence about a resurgence of long-standing land disputes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities, which had escalated into armed confrontations and property destruction.
According to the Army, soldiers came under fire shortly after arriving at the scene, prompting a brief exchange that resulted in the death of four assailants. Weapons recovered included three dane guns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles.
A personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, found operating alongside the militia, has been arrested and is undergoing investigation to determine the extent of his involvement.
Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their prompt and professional response.
He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to restoring peace in Taraba State and urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and assist security agencies with credible intelligence.
He further assured the public that operations under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta would continue until lasting stability is restored across the state.
