A 74-year-old man in India faked his own death and staged a mock funeral to find out which family members and neighbors would grieve his passing, local media reported.
Mohan Lal, a retired Air Force veteran from Konchi village in Bihar, orchestrated the unusual stunt to gauge the respect and affection people had for him.
Residents were initially shocked by news of his sudden death and flocked to participate in the funeral rites, unaware that the entire event was staged.
The surprise reached its peak when Mohan suddenly rose from the casket, leaving mourners stunned. “After death, people carry the bier, but I wanted to witness it myself and know how much respect and affection people give me,” Mohan explained.

To make the act convincing, Mohan enlisted relatives to spread news of his “death” and arranged to be carried to the crematorium on a decorated bier.
Hundreds of residents attended, mourning him and performing traditional rituals, which ultimately reassured Mohan of his community’s regard.
Following the revelation, Mohan hosted a large feast for all attendees to smooth over any hard feelings and celebrate the unusual event.
