The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as the winner of the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, held on Saturday, November 8.

Announcing the final results at the INEC collation centre in Awka, the Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, said Soludo secured a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes.

MThe Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, finished third with 37,753 votes, while Labour Party (LP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates polled 10,576 and 1,401 votes respectively.

According to INEC, a total of 2,788,864 voters were registered for the election, out of which 598,229 were accredited.

The total votes cast stood at 595,298, with 584,054 valid votes and 11,244 rejected ballots recorded across the 21 local government areas.

Prof. Omoregie noted that while some polling units in Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South LGAs experienced cancellations affecting about 10,481 votes, the margin of lead was significant enough that the irregularities did not affect the overall result.

He said, “After reviewing and collating all the results entered in Form EC8E, it is my honour to declare that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, is hereby returned elected as Governor of Anambra State.”

Soludo’s sweeping victory saw him dominate all 21 local government areas, reaffirming APGA’s strong grassroots presence across the state.

The election, widely described as peaceful and credible, witnessed a high turnout in several areas including Awka South, Aguata, Nnewi North, Ihiala, and Idemili North.
