A ride-hailing driver in Abuja sparked online attention after confiscating a female passenger’s wig following a dispute over unpaid fare.
The incident occurred when the passenger, unable to pay immediately, asked the driver to wait while she arranged a transfer through someone else.
After nearly an hour without payment, the driver took her wig as collateral, insisting she could only retrieve it after settling the ride, warning he would double the amount if he delivered it.
The driver recounted past experiences with passengers failing to pay, highlighting the growing challenge for ride-hailing operators.
“If you no get money, don’t book a ride,” he stressed, urging passengers to show respect and ensure they can cover their transport costs.
The incident, captured in a viral video, has ignited discussions about accountability and passenger responsibility in Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry.
