Controversial Nigerian cleric Chukwuemeka Odumeje has ignited national debate after commenting on the country’s persistent challenges, including unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and unreliable electricity.
In a video circulating online, Odumeje expressed frustration with political leadership, accusing some officials of prioritising personal gain over citizens’ welfare.
He argued that regions rich in natural resources, such as the Niger Delta, remain underdeveloped despite their contributions to national wealth.
“If you people cannot handle the country as they call one Nigeria, separate the country. Let’s separate this one Nigeria,” he said.
He further criticised governors and political leaders for embezzling public funds while ordinary Nigerians face poor roads, limited electricity, and insecurity.
Odumeje’s remarks have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many debating the feasibility and consequences of separation, while others call for stronger governance reforms to address Nigeria’s structural and developmental challenges.
