A Nigerian woman, Bukola, has recounted being allegedly scammed of ₦50 million by a man she met on Tinder after family pressure encouraged her to seek a relationship.
In 2023, acting on her family’s advice, Bukola downloaded the dating app and met a man identifying himself as Alex, who claimed to be a businessman in construction with plans for an event centre and hotel.
Bukola said Alex’s confidence and public introductions as his “wife” convinced her of his sincerity.
Over time, she sent him significant amounts for supposed business projects. Her world collapsed when she discovered his real identity: Bankole Babalola, legally married with three children.
The woman he had presented as his sister was actually his wife. Bukola alleges he had scammed others in the past, calling it one of the darkest experiences of her life.
Social media users responded with shock, advice, and criticism, highlighting the dangers of online romance scams.
