Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has disclosed that he does not own a house or any land in Abuja, describing property ownership in the capital as an avoidable burden.
Speaking at a public event, the former Anambra State governor said he has no intention of acquiring property in Abuja, insisting that accumulating assets often creates more problems than benefits.
“I don’t have a house or land in Abuja. I’m not even planning to have one, because I don’t need it. The more you have these things, the more headache you have,” Obi stated.
His comments quickly stirred reactions online. While some supporters praised his message of simplicity and contentment, critics questioned his claims and accused him of political populism.
Others argued that property ownership only becomes stressful when linked to excess or corruption.
Obi’s remarks have reignited public debate around wealth, transparency and modest living among Nigerian politicians, particularly as discussions around leadership values continue nationwide.
